Description: There are 11 of these windows available, each measuring approximately 25" X 13.5". All are virtually perfect. The glass is 100 percent old and original. Circa 1880. Originally these windows were installed in a commercial building in Oakland, California during the Victorian Era.

This kinetic design was known as the Interlocked Scroll or Double Scroll pattern. I have never found a name for the textured field glass; I have always called it Amoeba Glass because it looks like a tightly packed culture of single-celled organisms. The heyday of Amoeba Glass production (from my collected knowledge) was 1875 to 1885, with most types being translucent glass, having no opalescence. The opalescence properties within this particular Amoeba Glass offers the viewer a pleasing glow, in direct or indirect light. The glow as seen through such (early phase) opalescent glass is not something you will see in modern glass.

The secondary glass used here is a fine hand-rolled Rippled Glass which displays the colors of a fiery, streaked sunset. Alternating these two very different textures side-by-side is bold and wonderfully effective. The faceting of the blue and green jewels was done the hard way, by hand-grinding or hand-polishing. Such a jewel pattern is called star-cut or crown-cut. This particular jeweling profile ended about 1885.

The original outer border lead was in bad shape so I upgraded it with new rigid zinc came. At the same time I soldered two sturdy copper loops onto each window for safe easy hanging. These windows are solid and ready to use.

If you buy two or more, the price is $425 each.
