Description: This window is exquisite. It has 100 percent original glass and its oak frame is also original. The plate glass is extra thick. Note the decorative work on the detail photos. This is an unusual profile of glass cutting called deep notching. The window displays a remarkable amount of notching.

Perhaps you could get someone, skilled enough, daring enough, to create a window like this today. The cost might be cheaper by $1500.00... if you shopped long and hard. But what would this new window be like in comparison? The difference would be night and day. To start, a new beveled window will be made with modern plate glass, with refractory properties that pale in comparison to vintage plate glass. The prismatic effects which bring color separation are far more radiant from old plate. The individual pieces of a new window will likely be made solely by machines. In an antique window each piece was held in the hands of a skilled artisan as it was being worked through each of the cutting and polishing processes. The talents of the journeyman bevelers of this period exist only in the hands of a few individual today. That is why these grand old bevels will only get less available and hold their value, unlike a modern window.
