Catalog No. AE403
Circa: 1890
Price: $9,250
Orientation: Vertical or horizontal
Condition: Excellent
Provenance: American Midwest
Dimensions: 24.5" x 76"

Description: Extremely fine American Beveled and Jeweled window with a great design. This one can be used either direction. When viewed horizontally it looks like a wave curling, breaking then sending out spray. The other (background) design exhibits the "Neptune" or fish-scale pattern. All of the individual fish scale pieces are zipper-cut along their edges.

The whole window was cut from old, heavy Pittsburgh Plate Glass. Condition is excellent. The beveling work is exceptional. An extensive amount of the scroll work is beveled to the point, that is, made so that opposing beveled surfaces meet to form a sharp ridge. Such work was exacting, unforgiving and expensive. Curved shapes cause light to swirl and flash along the beveled edges in most any lighting condition. The contemporary oak frame is nicely made and well finished.
